About Me

Grace and peace! My name is Steve Sering. I am first and foremost a forgiven, redeemed child of God. By His grace, I’ve served in different churches in different roles over the years in Indianapolis. I have been a youth pastor, a deacon, a worship pastor and an associate pastor. Currently I serve as the Associate Pastor of Worship for Blue Ridge Christian Union Church in Shelbyville, IN. I also work at Chick-fil-A at the airport. I have a bachelor’s degree in ministry from Crossroads Bible College (Indianapolis, IN) and a master’s of divinity degree in ministry from Southern Seminary (Louisville, KY). I love to read Scripture and Christian books, write music, spend time with family and friends, laugh alot and watch the occasional superhero movie and baby Yoda too.

About the Site

I have a story and I want to share it with you. My story is one of darkness and light, of pain and healing, of great sin and an even greater Savior. My prayer for this site is that God will breathe new life into hurting hearts by having biblically-based, Christ-centered material to enrich your walk with Jesus. He is our hope. I was an imperfect, sinful wretch who has been given a new name. I’m a child of God learning to walk the straight and narrow path just like you are. You will find posts about suffering, grace, grieving, the gospel and song stories that I wrote at different points in my faith walk. You can listen to the songs for free on the site.

Why the name?

The name of the site In the Valley 413 is made up of two things. First, In the Valley is a song I wrote during the most painful time in my life. It is about how God carried me through a dark depression and gave me new life in the midst of it. 413 represents my favorite Bible passage, Philippians 4:13. The Apostle Paul wrote about how to be content and endure every circumstance in life: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” These are powerful words! Christ is my strength and he is the foundation of this site, as well as my life!  God bless you richly in Christ!

Steve
