“For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” +Philippians 1:21
Build Your Hope on the Unshakable Foundation of Christ
We live in an ever-changing, unpredictable, broken and morally bankrupt society. Some days you turn on the news and find what you thought was true was just a facade. Crime spikes, people rage, laws are broken, lives are taken, pandemics swirl, nations break down, and the list goes on for the woes of the world. The question arises, “Where is your hope? Where is your foundation?” For far too many of us, we look to the empty saviors of this world to provide the hope that only eludes us. Like a vapor in wind, the comfort of a luxury life, the pomp of possessions, the security of relationships, the flash of ministry success all waver under the pressure of everyday living. All these pseudo-saviors will be crushed under the expectations and longings of your heart. Truly, only Christ will stand the test of time as the only solid foundation our lives can be built upon. The old hymn The Solid Rock rings true, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” Nothing in our lives can fulfill us as Jesus can. No matter the amount of money in our pockets, rings on our fingers, degrees on our walls or friends in our circles, they will never compare to Christ.
The Foundation of Christ
Christ is the source of our hope, the greatest good we can attain. His grace is immeasurable, inexhaustible and perfectly suited for the needs of our hearts. We humans are complex creatures but our reason for existence is found in one place, the cross. The cross of Christ is where we find life. It’s where we find salvation from sin. It’s where we find strength for each day. The next time you turn the news on remind yourself of your hope. Our culture will always be chaotic, our lives will always be uneasy, our friends and spouses will never fulfill the longing of our hearts. Only Christ can do that. We have to stop asking the world to do what only Christ can do. The Apostle Paul said it best when he said, “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). He banked his whole life on Christ! Physical death for him was a doorway into eternity. Translation: Christ was his only hope. Writing from a prison cell, Paul got right to the heart of the matter by saying life with Christ is better than anything this world offers. You may be black and blue from fighting the temptations of this world, but rest assured Christ is better! Jesus will satisfy your deepest longings and his offer is extended to you always. Humbly lay down your pseudo-saviors for the ultimate Savior, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. His grace awaits you.
