“Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”
Isaiah 26:4
This is the first post of what I am calling Song Stories. This is a way to share my music with you, giving the background behind each song. God gave me the gift of music to encourage myself and others in the faith during painful times, and good ones too. Jesus has been my “everlasting Rock” in the darkest times of my life. That said, here is the story behind In the Valley:
During my senior year of high school of 2004-2005, I was overloaded with stress. A few classes were very difficult and I felt the weight. It kept building until finally, my brain shut down and I became a different person. I wasn’t Steve anymore. The sting of depression hit me with brute force and I had to be admitted into the hospital for two weeks. This was during spring break and was the darkest time of my life. As a Christian, I knew God was there. He didn’t feel near, in fact he seemed very distant. Every horrible thought imaginable came to my mind as I struggled to endure. It took several weeks before things got better. But they did. In the dark dungeon of depression God was with me, just like a faithful friend through the worst of times. His grace kept me alive, literally. I would have done terrible things apart from his protective hand. In the Valley is the story of God carrying me through the most painful experience of my life. He gave me the strength I needed to overcome the pain. If you have repented of your sins and believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, God is forever holding you in his everlasting arms. No trial can pry you from God’s hand. He is for you, in every valley. Amen.
In the Valley
Verse 1
In the darkness, I am wandering
Reflection fading in the sand
Where I stumble within myself, there’s something in the air
Chorus
In the valley you will find me, in the valley you are there
In the valley you will hold me, you will mold me; here I know you care
Verse 2
My feet seem lost, in this journey
My heart doesn’t know where to lead
Is anybody here, can anybody hear me?
